We're often asked:

The best type of coffee for relaxing is either a completely decaffeinated variety or a beautifully balanced, light roast that you can sit back and slowly savour without over-stimulating your system. Unwinding with a warm mug is as much about the comforting ritual - breathing in the rich aromas and enjoying the warmth - as it is about the bean itself.

To create the ultimate relaxing break, our collection offers three perfect choices:

The Carefree Evening Brew - Miles Delightfully Decaffeinated: The absolute gold standard for late-night unwinding. Because it is entirely free from caffeine jitters, you can enjoy a rich, comforting mug right before bed while keeping your evening completely peaceful.

The Gentle Afternoon Escape - Miles Bright & Breezy: An easy-going, smooth blend designed for those moments when you want to pause and take a breath during a hectic day. It offers a mellow, balanced taste that is incredibly soothing.

The Slow-Paced Morning Ritual - Miles Breakfast Coffee Beans: While many use our lightest roast to start the day, its remarkably clean, crisp, and tea-like clarity makes it equally wonderful for a slow, peaceful weekend morning when you just want to lounge and relax.

Is decaf coffee truly caffeine-free?
While decaf coffee is not 100% chemically devoid of caffeine, it is legally required to be at least 99.7% caffeine-free, meaning the trace amounts left behind are far too low to affect your sleep or trigger any alertness signals. For context, a standard mug of regular coffee contains anywhere from 90mg to 140mg of caffeine, whereas a mug of decaf contains a mere 2mg to 4mg.

To put that into perspective, you would have to drink roughly 30 to 40 cups of decaf in a single sitting to experience the stimulant effect of just one regular cup of coffee. When we source our Delightfully Decaffeinated Coffee Beans, we select crops where the caffeine has been safely and gently drawn out while leaving the bean's structure entirely intact. We then expertly roast these beans to lock in a deeply authentic, smooth, and aromatic flavour profile that lets you completely unwind at night with absolute peace of mind.

A standard 250ml mug of brewed coffee typically contains between 90mg and 140mg of caffeine, but this number can fluctuate significantly based on the specific bean variety, the roast level, and how long the grounds are steeped. Understanding these levels is key if you are looking to manage your daily intake and transition smoothly into a relaxing evening.

Many people are surprised to learn that lighter roasts, like our Breakfast coffee or Bright & Breezy, naturally retain slightly more caffeine by volume than dark roasts because the beans spend less time under the intense heat that breaks down caffeine molecules. However, because they lack the heavy, bitter oils of a dark roast, they offer a much smoother, gentler, and more refreshing experience. If you are looking to cut out the stimulant entirely past midday, switching over to our premium decaffeinated coffee allows you to keep the beloved taste of a proper brew all evening long.
