The taste

Bright, bold and clean, this is a great blend for those who love a full-bodied tea.

The benefit

What does Kenyan tea taste like?

Kenyan tea is renowned for its bold, robust flavour profile. The taste of Kenyan tea is often described as rich and full-bodied, with a bright and brisk quality that sets it apart from teas produced in other regions. It has a distinct malty flavor with hints of citrus and floral notes, creating a complex and satisfying taste experience. The high-altitude regions where Kenyan tea is grown contribute to its unique flavour characteristics, as the cool climate and fertile soil help produce tea leaves with exceptional flavor and aroma. Overall, Kenyan tea offers a delightful combination of strength, brightness, and complexity that appeals to tea enthusiasts worldwide.

Does Kenyan tea contain caffeine?

Kenyan tea does contain caffeine. Caffeine is a naturally occurring stimulant found in tea leaves, including those used to produce Kenyan tea. The amount of caffeine in Kenyan tea can vary depending on factors such as the type of tea leaves used, the brewing method, and the steeping time. Generally, black teas like those commonly produced in Kenya contain higher levels of caffeine compared to green or white teas. It's important for individuals sensitive to caffeine to be aware of its presence in Kenyan tea and consume it accordingly.

How to brew:

Tea: 1 heaped teaspoon | Water temp: 100°C | Brewing Time: 4-5 minutes.

Method:

Experience the malty flavour of this classic Kenya tea by bringing filtered or freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place one heaped teaspoon of loose tea for every 200–260ml of water into your cup or teapot. Pour the boiling water over the leaves, cover, and allow to infuse for an optimum time of 4 to 5 minutes. While the tea can be steeped for 3 to 7 minutes according to your taste preference, the recommended time for a balanced cup is 4 to 5 minutes.

Goes well with:
Milk, sugar or lemon.

Pro tip:
Kenyan tea is often the secret ingredient in top-tier Breakfast blends because of its "briskness." Because it's so robust, it is arguably the best tea in the world to take with a splash of milk, which brings out a lovely natural maltiness. If you're looking for a morning "wake-up" call that’s more refreshing than coffee, this is the one.
