Description

The blend

This pretty tea takes the traditional bergamot and citrus flavours of our much-loved Earl Grey and couples them with the light fragrance of Cornflower.

The taste

A traditional black tea flavoured with oil of bergamot and blended with cornflowers. This light tea has a delicate citrus aroma and a strong, fragrant taste.

The benefit

Black tea contains polyphenols, a type of antioxidant. Caffeine and an amino acid called L-theanine are also found in black tea, which is said can improve alertness and focus – even more than coffee!

The moment

Feeling stressed and overwhelmed? This could be the tea blend for you. The oil of bergamot in this blend is said to calm the mind and improve mood, so this is a delightful tea to relax with after a long day at work.

Using traditional methods of blending and tasting, this tea has been carefully crafted by the Miles team, using Miles experTeas!

Does earl grey tea with cornflowers have caffeine?

Earl Grey tea with cornflowers typically contains caffeine, as the base of Earl Grey tea is black tea, which naturally contains caffeine. The addition of cornflowers does not affect the caffeine content significantly. Caffeine levels can vary depending on factors such as brewing time and temperature, but in general, Earl Grey tea is considered to have moderate caffeine levels compared to other types of tea. If you are sensitive to caffeine or trying to limit your intake, it may be advisable to consume Earl Grey tea in moderation or opt for decaffeinated versions if available.

Why are cornflowers added to earl grey tea?

Cornflowers are added to Earl Grey tea primarily for aesthetic purposes; however they do contain some health benefits as mentioned above. These small, vibrant blue flowers add a pop of colour to the blend, creating an appealing visual contrast with the dark tea leaves. In addition to their visual appeal, cornflowers are also sometimes included in Earl Grey tea for their subtle sweet flavor and delicate aroma, which can complement the citrus notes of the bergamot oil traditionally used in this type of tea. While not a key ingredient in terms of taste, cornflowers contribute to the overall sensory experience of enjoying a cup of Earl Grey tea.

Is earl grey tea with cornflowers good for you?

Earl Grey tea with cornflowers is not only a delightful blend but also offers potential health benefits. Earl Grey tea itself is known for its antioxidant properties, which can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases and improve overall well-being. The addition of cornflowers to the mix not only enhances the visual appeal of the tea but also contributes to its potential health benefits. Cornflowers are rich in vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C and potassium, which can support immune function and promote hydration. Furthermore, the soothing aroma and taste of earl grey tea with cornflowers can provide a relaxing experience that may help reduce stress and anxiety. As with any dietary choice, moderation is key to reaping the benefits of this flavourful tea blend.

How to brew:

Tea: 1 heaped teaspoon | Water temp: 100°C | Brewing Time: 4-5 minutes.

Method:

Capture the unbelievable aroma and classic character of this premium Earl Grey, along with the beautiful aesthetic of the bright blue cornflowers, by bringing filtered or freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place one heaped teaspoon of loose tea for every 200–260ml of water into your cup or teapot. Pour the boiling water over the leaves, cover, and allow to infuse for an optimum time of 4 to 5 minutes. While the tea can be steeped for 3 to 7 minutes according to your taste preference, the recommended time for a balanced cup is 4 to 5 minutes.

Goes well with:
Milk or sugar.

Pro tip:
You’ll notice vibrant blue petals mixed in with your tea leaves - these are cornflowers. While they look stunning, they also serve a clever purpose for the home brewer. They act as a visual guide to ensure a consistent blend; as long as you see a few blue petals in your scoop, you know you’re getting the perfect balance of luxury Orange Pekoe (tea grade, not colour) leaves and that 'unbelievable' bergamot flavour we are famous for.
