Description

The Roast

A blend of Central and South American coffee, these beans have been roasted for as long as we dare. The dark, shiny beans produce an intense flavour and strong coffee, highest roast number 5.

The Taste

This roast results in a punchy, flavoursome cup with a bitter-sweet, dark chocolate intensity.

The Benefit

The caffeine in the coffee will make you feel more energised and can boost your metabolism. Coffee beans contain vitamins, many of which make their way to the brewed cup.

The Moment

When you haven’t had the best night’s sleep and you need a strong kick of caffeine, reach for a cup of Continental coffee

The Creation

Only the finest beans from around the world make their way into our coffees. Each bag is filled with hand-roasted coffee beans. Our coffee Gurus use their experience and knowledge of the artisan coffee industry to guarantee a perfect roast every time.

Based on the edge of Exmoor and on Somerset’s coastline, we take inspiration from our beautiful surroundings to create a cup of coffee that embodies a little escape, evoking memories of a holiday in the West Country, with each sip. Our attention to detail and experience ensures a consistent, flavourful coffee that will see you constantly topping up your mug.

About this coffee:

Our Continental coffee represents our ultimate expression of a traditional, high-impact European style coffee. As our deepest and darkest roast level, this robust blend unites selected varieties from Brazil, Uganda, and Honduras to establish an uncompromisingly bold, heavy-bodied profile engineered for maximum strength.

Blend Composition and Origins

  • Brazil:
Acts as a rich foundation, providing a naturally processed element where the inherent sugars deeply caramelise under intense roasting temperatures.
  • Uganda (Robusta):
Selected specifically to inject an assertive, powerful backbone, substantial mouthfeel, and a thick, resilient crema.
  • Honduras:
Cultivated in high-altitude environments to offer a dark, molasses-driven complexity that beautifully underpins the intense roast characteristics.

The Art of the Roast

  • Roasting Profile:
To achieve its distinctive depth, the green coffee is pushed to a peak temperature of 226 degrees Celsius over an extended cycle of 18 - 20 minutes, usually pulling the beans right at the 20 minute threshold.
  • Roaster’s Expertise:
Navigating this level of heat demands vigilant sensory control. Our roasting team judges the development entirely by eye and ear, catching the beans at the exact second the colour darkens and natural oils completely glaze the surface.
  • Character:
This deliberate process coaxes out a profoundly smoky, bittersweet cup dominated by dark chocolate and toasted walnut flavours. It leaves a lingering, powerful finish that effortlessly cuts through milk, making it a perfect match for a heavy morning latte or a potent cafetière.

From Global Origins to your cup:

The raw components of this blend travel from South American plateaus, Central American highlands, and East African estates before arriving at our Somerset roastery in the coastal village of Porlock. Here, the green beans undergo our most demanding thermal profile, bridging classic continental traditions with West Country craftsmanship. This final step - shifting from diverse global landscapes into the intense heat of our Exmoor roastery - guarantees an unapologetically bold, full-flavoured cup that delivers a definitive dark roast experience directly into your hands.
