Winter walks

Christmas Planning Lifestyle

Wrap up warm and head to the South West for a walk that will blow the cobwebs away…

If, like us, you are already full to the brim with festive foods, bring the year to a slightly more active end by enjoying a picturesque, winter walk. Visit the South West for coastal strolls, long walks taking in countryside vistas and amble along wooded trails…

Cheddar Gorge

The three-mile cliff top walk at Cheddar Gorge provides spectacular views over Somerset. Choose a crisp, clear day, wrap up warm and meander along this bridal causeway, enjoy the scenery across the Mendip Hills and spotting British wildlife.

Seaton Cliff Walk

Start your journey in Seaton following the coastal path, with views over Seaton Bay, to the village of Beer. Finish this mile and a half walk with refreshments in one of Beers’ eateries.

Glastonbury Tor

Walk from the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey to St Michael's tower at the top of the tor. The steady climb has fabulous views over Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Wales. Glastonbury Tor is known as one of the most spiritual sites in the country.

Westward Ho

Walk along the old railway line from the outskirts of Westward Ho towards Clovelly, looking out over the rough seas at Bideford Bay and the cliffs near Hartland Point.

Tamar Lakes

On the border of Devon and Cornwall, you’ll find Tamar Lakes. Walk around the lakes on a brisk winter’s day, with a flask of Miles West Country Original, or take part in the water sports on offer at the lakes’ activity centre.

Padstow Harbour

Meander along the little lanes of Padstow, popping into the shops and enjoying a Cornish pasty, stroll around the harbour and walk along the coastal path overlooking the River Camel and the Atlantic. You can follow the coastal path all the way to Harlyn Bay (6.9 miles).

Horner Woods

If you head down to the woods today… you’ll find an oak tree that’s over 500 years old! Horner Wood Ancient Trees Walk leads you through two-miles of woodland, along streams and over footbridges. Visit the Horner Tea Gardens or pack up a flask of Coffee and flapjack to take with you for after your stroll.

Teign Gorge

Follow the high path above the River Teign, taking in the tranquil setting, on Teign Gorge Classic Circuit. This circular walk is around four-miles, so enjoy Dartmoor’s landscape for an afternoon, spotting Castle Drogo on your way.
