What is chamomile tea made from?
Chamomile tea is made from the dried flowers of the chamomile plant, specifically the Matricaria chamomilla or Chamaemelum nobile species. These small, daisy-like flowers have a sweet and floral aroma, which contributes to the soothing and calming properties of chamomile tea when infused in hot water. Chamomile is commonly grown in regions with temperate climates, such as Europe, North America, and Asia. The plant thrives in well-drained soil and requires plenty of sunlight to produce its delicate flowers which are harvested for various purposes, including herbal teas like chamomile tea known for its relaxation-inducing qualities.
How do you brew chamomile tea?
Brewing loose chamomile tea is a simple yet rewarding process. To begin, heat water to just below boiling, around 93°C. Place one to two teaspoons of loose chamomile flowers into a tea infuser or strainer. Place the infuser or strainer in a cup or teapot. Pour the hot water over the chamomile flowers and allow them to steep for up to 5 minutes. The longer the tea steeps, the stronger the flavor will be. Once steeped to your desired strength, remove the infuser or strain out the chamomile flowers. You can enjoy the soothing and aromatic chamomile tea as is, or add honey or lemon for extra flavor. Chamomile tea is known for its calming properties and is perfect for unwinding after a long day.
