Description

Celebrating Derek Miles' 60 years with Miles Tea

Derek MIles started packing and selling tea soon after arriving in Porlock in 1962.  The business is still there today, like their tea, as strong as ever.

This 160 pack celebrates 60 years of DJ Miles & Co Ltd. in Porlock and 130 years of continuous tea packing over three generations of the Miles family.

The Blend

West Country Original is our signature tea. This box contains 160 teabags, each filled with a delicious blend of Assam and African teas, it’s the perfect cup of tea to be enjoyed morning, noon and night.

The Taste

Delightfully bright and full of flavour, this is the perfect start to your day. West Country Original is your classic, everyday English breakfast tea. Made using the finest Assam and Kenya tea leaves, West Country Original is a strong tea that is full of flavour.

The benefit

Black tea contains polyphenols, a type of antioxidant. Caffeine and an amino acid called L-theanine are also found in black tea, which is said can improve alertness and focus – even more than coffee!

The Moment

Based on the classic English breakfast tea, this is actually the perfect brew for any time of day (not just breakfast!) and to improve any mood – if it’s a good one it will make you even happier! Wake up with this blend and enjoy it through the day.

The Creation

Using traditional methods of blending and tasting, this tea has been carefully crafted by the Miles team, using Miles experTeas!

Based in the edge of Exmoor and on Somerset’s coastline, we take inspiration from our beautiful surroundings to create a cuppa that embodies a little escape, evoking memories of a holiday in the West Country, with each sip. Our attention to detail and experience ensures a consistent, flavourful tea that will see you constantly topping up your mug.

We are founding members of the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP). The ETP is a not-for-profit organisation, which convenes tea companies, developing agencies, governmental and non-governmental organisations to improve the lives of communities within the tea sector. Each purchase directly helps to provide better living and working conditions for those working in the tea trade.

Ingredients

The Tea

This tea has a high Assam content for strength and colour, together with high grown Kenya teas for flavour and brightness.

Perfect Brew

Perfect Brew

Black tea is best made with water brought to a full boil and used immediately for the tea to release its full flavour (if you're using a teapot remember to warm the pot first). Use one teabag per person or one teaspoon of loose-leaf tea per person.

Allow to brew for 3-5 minutes. If you like your tea strong add more tea, don't steep for longer as this will turn the flavours bitter.

Drink with milk, with lemon or on its own.

Perfect Pack

Our West Country Original traditional teabags are available in packs of 4080, 240440 and 1100. Loose leaf West Country Original is available in either a 250g or 1kg pack. This blend is also available as 50 string and tagged teabags.

Perfect Pair

We think almost any biscuit is perfect for dunking into this blend, but personally we’d always choose a Rich Tea or a Digestive. However, the most obvious (and far more indulgent) pairing with Miles West Country Original tea has got to be a scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Try your hand at making your own scones with our English Afternoon Tea Scone recipe.

Storage

Make sure you store your tea in an airtight container – a tin is better than plastic, or seal up the packaging it arrives in. Although tea feels dry, it contains 3 % moisture and oils that are essential to its flavour. If not properly stored these can evaporate. Keep your tea in a fairly cool, dry place, which is out of sunlight and try to keep away from any spices that could taint the flavour.
